Wonder Festival 2024 Recap

INART returned to Wonder Festival once again in October 2024. This time, the team brought some new reveals. Catwoman, from The Dark Knight Rises, Severus Snape from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as well as the Black Myth: Wukong sixth scale figure. 

The event drew crowds both online and offline, with the new pre-orders, reveals and missing figures being key talking points.

THE CAT'S DEBUT

Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman, is a cunning and devious master thief who targets Gotham’s wealthiest in her pursuit of riches. Portrayed by the stunning Anne Hathaway, the INART team has worked tirelessly to bring her interpretation of The Cat to life, imbuing the sculpt a sense of cunning deviousness, while continuously improving the materials used for her costume to ensure authenticity to the character.

POTTER!

Severus Snape is an enigmatic and mysterious fixture at Hogwarts. Serving as the professor of Potions, he immediately becomes hostile to the young Harry when the two first meet. Portrayed by the widely acclaimed actor Alan Rickman, the INART team has brought its best efforts to capture Snape’s apparent dismissiveness and arrogance as well as the heartbreaking grief that he buries deep inside himself.

RETURN OF THE KING

Leader of the Company of Dwarves that aim to reclaim the Lonely Mountain, Thorin Oakenshield is both heroic and yet stubborn to a fault. Portrayed on-screen by Richard Armitage, the INART team has revisited our prototype after hearing from collectors over the past year. With a newly refined likeness, the team has brought this remarkable leader to life once more.

LEGOLAS

After revealing the Official Promo Images prior to WF, collectors in attendance and online were able to see the figure in more detail.

Legolas has been highly anticipated by many as the next logical follow up to Gandalf and Aragorn. While the response was generally positive, comments asking for improvement have not gone unnoticed.

Die hard fans and collectors are calling out for both of Legolas’ bows to be included, as well as some minor adjustments to the head sculpt and hair braid.

While it’s too early to announce anything just yet. Improvements and updates are being considered.

 

NAZGUL

The Nazgûl, Sauron’s most terrible servants. Reduced to invisible wraiths and bound to the One Ring, completely under Sauron’s control!

These ominous characters were first seen stalking the Hobbits as they left on the shire. The INART team only saw it fitting to bring one of these characters to life early into the LOTR Six Scale collection. Of course, the horse had to be included to recreate an iconic scene from the first instalment from the trilogy.

At Shanghai Wonder Festival 2024, collectors got another chance to see the figures up close. Highlights include:

1) The shoulder, leg and hand armors are all meticulously crafted with die-cast to recreate the cold metallic sheen as seen in the movie. This production process involved a massive amount of reference materials, and each piece of armor is formed from many differently sized smaller pieces, with over a hundred rivets and welds combined with hinges to ensure the armor plates still allow for great articulation. Each armor piece has been carefully polished and matted, before being chromed and blackened to increase its durability without compromising its aesthetics. Through this complex and fine process, each piece of ancient and weathered on-screen detail is faithfully translated into the figure.

2) The Nazgûl weapons are also made of diecast metal, showcasing detailed textures and engravings, with a weathered paint finish.

3) The deluxe version includes the Nazgûl horse and a corresponding base, recreating the complex and minute details of the Nazgûl horse’s gear. The accessories on the figure feature real leather reins, while the horse's armor and buckles are made of brass, alloy, and other metal materials.

 

BLACK MYTH: WUKONG

With the successful launch of the much anticipated Black Myth: Wukong game,  INART was lucky enough to work with the team Game Science team for the exclusive bonus. 

At this year's WF 2024, the bonus figure and other collectibles capturing the iconic characters from the epic story were on display.

While we weren't able to offer these to collectors internationally, there could be a chance of some globally licensed figures on the way.

WHERE'S THE REST?

While the team worked hard to make sure there was a strong selection of figures at Shanghai WF 2024, we know some of you wanted to see more.

In particular, the Christopher Reeve Superman, and Daenerys Targaryen were missing from the line up.

Although these figures did feature at WF2023, the team decided not to bring them along for this year's show. There has been speculation online, but we can confirm that these figures are still in development. Based on the feedback we have, we’re still working on these and will share updates as soon as we have them.

For WF2024, our goal was to show figures that would be coming up for pre-order much sooner. The aforementioned figures could be coming a little later in 2025 instead of the start of the year.
